Frequently Asked Questions

Who can score the goals?
Forward line, half forward line, centre line and follower positions can all have shots at goal. The chances are less if for instance back on the centre line, the game uses random numbers eg full forward's disposal might be a 90/10 chance its a shot at goal, wingman's chance might be 10/90.
The computer also makes random positional changes every now and then, so that backliners, and even benchwarmers, can score goals.

What's the point for players on the bench?
The computer also makes random positional changes every now and then, so that backliners, and even benchwarmers, can score goals.

How are the games calculated?
A QBasic program holds team lists for a bunch of clubs, turns it into a league, and plays a season.
The whole thing is based on random numbers. Therefore, anybody can play well or bad, anybody can win or lose, and all these roles can reverse themselves.

How many players are there on a team?
Teams are of twenty players, a bench of two, that was the AFL system when I first wrote the game.

Why don't my stats add up?
The game isn't perfect. Sometimes a full forward ends up with 3.3 from his four kicks for the day! Please keep an open mind. The results always match total player scores, that's ok. It's just the player stats that can sometimes be a little skewiff.

How does the game work out who wins?
The game plays footy matches ENTIRELY AT RANDOM, eg, when a player kicks a ball to a teammate, its about 50% his teammate gets possession, 30% his opposition gets it, and 20% ball spills free (these aren't the exact ratios but its sort of like that). It's more complicated than that BUT IT IS SIMPLE.

Does my position on the ground ever change?
The STARTING LINEUP is always the same unless teams advise me of a change to the STARTING LINEUP. The starting lineup is not always exactly what it seems. There is sometimes a random switch of the full-forward with any other player before the game starts. I remember now that I added this just so that players who always start down the backline can sometimes get a run up forward. If the player performs well in his temporary position, then it may be worth the team selection committee considering a lineup change.
The computer also makes random positional changes every now and then, so that backliners, and even benchwarmers, can score goals.

I'd like a copy of the game.
